Hifiman Edition XS

Let’s cut to the chase: for $209, the Hifiman Edition XS is not just a good deal, it's a masterclass in value. Hifiman has taken the blueprint of their revered Edition X and injected it with their latest NsD diaphragm and those signature stealth magnets, and the result is frankly astonishing. You're getting a planar magnetic sound that punches far, far above its price tag. The soundstage is expansive, giving instruments room to breathe and creating a sense of immersion that's usually reserved for headphones costing twice as much, if not more. The detail retrieval is sharp, allowing you to pick out nuances in your favorite tracks you might have missed before. This isn't just entry-level audiophile; this is a serious contender for your primary listening rig.

Now, the caveat. While the sound is undoubtedly stellar, the comfort is… fine. These are large headphones, and while the weight is manageable at 405g, the clamping force can be a touch light for some, and the earcups, while plush, might feel a bit cavernous on smaller heads. However, if you can get past that minor fit consideration – and most will, given the sonic payoff – the Edition XS is an easy recommendation. They’re easy to drive thanks to their 18-ohm impedance and 92dB sensitivity, meaning your phone or laptop can actually do them justice, but they truly sing with a dedicated amplifier. For anyone looking to step into the world of high-fidelity audio without emptying their wallet, the Edition XS is your gateway. Don't hesitate.
